Dead Camera

Bad news bears. I've got a dead camera and the charger is no where to be found. I'm sure that at some point it will show up but right now there are many things I'd like to share with you that I can't! It's such a bummer.

Here's a quick list of awesome things that are up in my life.

I have a new friend from work named Christopher. I'm pretty happy about that 'cause I've been weirdly lonely since i started working on my art project. Not getting as much social time in I guess. Plus, one of my friends has no way of getting in contact with me and works all the time and I miss her!

There are blackberries growing in our yard! Big sweet, delicious blackberries that you can mix into thick, plain, Greek yogurt with a little bit of honey to make the most delicious yogurt ever. I don't even like yogurt but I'm trying to eat it to keep my diet b/c it's pretty good for you.

Also! my friend Jon came through Portland yesterday which was great! I'm so glad that he's going to be back in town in about 3 weeks. So many great things are going on. If I could only show you pictures.

Zoobomb

On Sunday I went Zoobombing. I've attached an article here which pretty aptly describes the event.

In fact, I rode on the Max up the hill with the blind bomber who is mentioned in the article. It was delightful. I went up with my new friend from work, Christopher (because I was afraid to do it alone) and we made it for the second round of hill bombing. We rode back up for the third round but ended up doing it before the rest of the group since it was getting late and we both had work in the morning. I was super tired for work the next day as we ended up staying out pretty late (I got home at about 1:40am) but it was totally worth it. Not only did I get an awesome new experience I also got some new friend time in.

Outside of my new zoobomb experience, I've also been working on an art project and have made some pretty cool purchases as of late. I bought a table saw the other day but am still in the process of changing the blade so that I can use it. I'm about to head out to buy some embroidery floss. Hopefully, I can show you all some pictures of what's been getting underway pretty soon.

Things that keep me from sleeping

Outside of alarms, the things that keep me from sleeping are mostly positive. I started an art project about a week ago and am frequently too involved in working or thinking about it to sleep. Even when I'm out of supplies, I'm planning what I'd like to be doing and what I need to get. I've got to work for the next five or six days which means it might be a bit difficult to work in cross stitching, supply getting, and (hopefully) table saw repair. But, I've been relatively productive, as of late, so I might be able to get all that done. It's nice only working until 3 or 4 at the latest because you can sure get a lot done in the evening if you can muster post-work energy.

I'm reading a new book but I'm not totally in love with it so It's not doing so much work keeping me awake. Mostly, it's just art planning that's keeping me from catching those zz's. I've also, been toying with the idea of going to school for nursing (maybe to be an ob/gyn nurse) I'm going to try and find out the requirements to receive in state tuition here in OR are before I get too carried away with planning that.

new race

I just signed up for a new race. It's just a half marathon but I couldn't resist it. It's the Holiday Half Marathon and it's December 11th.

At the race check in you get bells to put in your shoes and throughout the race there are carolers (every 2 miles). It's only a few miles away from where I live so I can get there easily and since I was one of the first 200 to sign up for it I get a race hoodie instead of just a regular t-shirt. Hurray!

It will also help keep me inspired to run which is pretty important. I also, have my eye out for any good Marathons that might come at the end of October or beginning of November but haven't decided on one yet. I've been thinking about races quite a bit recently. Now I've got to get my head back in the work game as my work week is starting.

Second Bike

I was thinking today, about how it is that as we progress, monetarily, we frequently begin a search for another vehicle. The type of vehicle seems to vary depending on which economic level you occupy but the trend still seems to exist.

For instance. A fairly wealthy family might buy a boat or another more recreational vehicle, a middle class family might buy themselves another car to make the commute to work more manageable, my roommate, who has a salaried job, bought a motorcycle a few months ago, and I just bought a 2nd bike. Granted: this bike was only a $15 investment and it is off the hook awesome but the sign is still there. I'm making a stead income.

It's a pretty small bike. Check out those handlebars and that seat.

Another view

Yes, today after I got off of work, I received a text from my friend Dan that his room mate was selling his awesome bike. In the past few weeks I've had the chance to test ride this bike a few times and have totally fallen in love. This beauty has coaster brakes, a banana seat and those awesome drop down, cruisin' handlebars. I feel as though I've made a good investment. I can't wait to ride it around on my day off tomorrow. I think that I'll ride it over to the restore for my first longer ride.

Anyways, I thought you all deserved a more exciting post than usual since it had been a while since my last update. Here you have it.

The Grapes of Wrath

I'm currently Rereading The Grapes of Wrath by: Jon Steinbeck and am really loving it.

But now, everything that I see reminds me of the book. I see old cars I think of jalopies. I got a flat bike tire I think of families patching their last tire while looking for work. When I tell someone about my family I want to say"fambly" instead of family. When I ran my race on Sauvie Island, an island where people often go to pick their own produce off of farms, I thought, "Hm... people pay for this experience" In contrast to the Joads (the protagonists) who were begging to do this stuff and get paid. I ran past an engine rebuilding store yesterday and thought about the book. I saw a homeless person's sleeping area and thought of Hoovervilles.

This book is inside my head in a way I don't think a book has ever been. I wonder if it's just this book or if it's a transition in the way I think about my reading materials. I kind of like it. It gives me a lot more ability to reflect on what I'm reading. I might go on a bit of a Steinbeck kick and see if the others are like this.
