Dad

So, I've been doing some things with my free time that remind me of things my dad did while I was growing up. Besides being in charge of the all the grocery shopping on a regular basis- welcome to the world of being a single adult-, today I put the lights on our "Christmas tree". Saturday I spent hours doing yard work. I raked the yard, and cut back briers for hours people. Despite the fact that our "Christmas tree" is really just a bush in our front yard and the briers that I cut back should have been cut back months ago, I still felt really on top of things like my dad always seemed to be when I was growing up.

I mean, even now, I am constantly surprised at how much my dad knows about dealing with tricky things like doctors offices and insurance companies. Shout out to you Dad for being awesome. I love and appreciate you.

  1. So, I put up our Christmas tree that I cut myself and totally failed. I have no Dad magic. Possibly this has to do with the fact that I did not have a Christmas tree holder and instead was trying to hold my Christmas tree in a large pickle jar weighted down with rocks. Well, first it wasn't weighted down at all and then it fell over and spilled all the water out on our floor. Then, Ryan weighted it with rocks but apparently not enough as it fell over last night and again spilled water all over our floor and the ornaments all fell off. I didn't notice because I was asleep so my housemate had to clean up the water and when I got up this morning she was in a bad mood at me b/c she had to do that. So...basically that was a big fail. I still refuse to buy a Christmas tree holder because I don't believe in buying crap like that when probably there are millions of out-of-use ones I can get for free somewhere, if I only had that in mind to look for. The tree was pretty, but now it will probably have to die since I have no way to hold it up. Oh, well...

  2. Aw man! I saw a christmas tree holder at a 2nd hand store the other day! I shoulda bought if for you. Maybe it's cold enough that your tree won't die before christmas. It will just have to lean against something for awhile. It's ok. A leaning christmas tree is better than no tree at all (I think).
