It's been a pretty good couple of days. Mamaw, is super energetic today because she's getting some high quality, pharmacy grade, steroids to help her with the first few days of treatment side effects (also, she was healthy enough to get treatment which is very good).
She is undertaking all kinds of projects today i.e. income tax prep, laundry (so many kinds of laundry), bathroom scrubbing, birthday card and assorted items buying, head shaving. She's so jazzed it has been hard to get her to sit still for breakfast. Doesn't look like naps are in the picture for today, alas.
She seems unfazed by the fact that she has to wake up 2 hours earlier than normal to take pills (maybe because the pills make her feel like Wonder Woman). Today, my grandma is a woman of action. She's making decisions and we're doing them. It's nice to see her so empowered. It is also exhausting.
The biggest thing we did this morning was shave her head. My sweater is now powdered with little bits of silver hair. She looks good bald- every bit as hip as any Portlander could ever wish to be. I'm a little bit jealous and just want to give up my quest to grow my hair long again. We could be bald together. I would love it.
Yesterday, whilst the treatment was in session, I went on a short run with Dan to one of the restaurants on the list. Jackfruit BBQ sammie that came sweet potato fries & house salad. Then we split a Mexican chocolate pie and ginger pear pie (with delicious short bready crust) for dessert. I could have died happy after that meal. Ipanema. Check it out, if only for their brilliant dessert selection. But really, delicious vegetarian fare, good drink deals, and awesome pies.
Speaking of pies, I need to run more. Maybe before we head out on our errands I can go for a quickie. I feel like I'm always squeezing in short runs and never going on long ones. But, any run is better than no run. Hope you guys are eating well, staying in shape, and generally enjoying life as much as I am.
Born and raised in the mid Atlantic, I took myself out to Portland, OR in September 2010. Here is a small measure of documentation on the adventures of learning to remake my world on the west and on other related topics..

Slacking on the Sched.
Hi all, and by all I mostly mean, Katelyn- My one most dedicated blog follower.
Sorry for letting you guys down on the blog schedule. I know that I've missed my past two updates. Things have been happening for sure but for some reason, I haven't been on the computer as much to let you know about them. The biggest reason for that is actually because in my free time I've been reading a book called Shantaram. It's a good book but I've been reading it with special fervor because it's due back to the library when I'm on vacation so I know I need to get it all read before I leave and it's like a 900 page book. All of my extra time focus has been going into this book. Sorry all.
Besides all of that reading what have I been doing with my time?
Enjoying the nice weather for one. It's been warm enough to wear short sleeves pretty much every day this week.
Going on a couple of dates for another. Since last Friday I've gone to a Cajun food place, had a home made dinner date, and gone to see a movie with the same boy.
Going to some music shows. Found a band I really enjoy besides the one that I always go to see, And, And, And. They're called My Autumn's Done Come. I really enjoy the fact that Portland really does have a show to offer every night of the week that is usually free or under $5 to see. I mean, I'm not going every night of the week but I have been to 3 shows in the past 3 weeks. It probably doesn't hurt that I have a crush on a band member.
Aside from all of this, I've been working and trying to maintain a clean home. Today, Wednesday, has been nicknamed Cleansday by my roomie because I try to at least clean the linolium floors that we have every Wedensday. Today, I cleaned the bathroom, except for the shower and am working on a wipe down and floor cleaning of the kitchen.
I'm also avoiding sugar (that doesn't occur in fruit) this week. Boy, is that a challenge for me. It makes me realize how much of an addict I am. I had a dream about brownies last night! For goodness sake, brownies!
I'll try and update tomorrow so you don't feel too left behind on the happenings of my life. Then, I'll be back on track.
Thanks for reading. Shout out to Dan, who I know reads this blog on the regs too. I appreciate it.

New Home (yes I know, again)
AllRIGHT! first things first, I'll eat your brains.
But next on the list is: Here's my new address.
Rachel Ogburn
2301 SE 39th Av e
Portland, OR 97214
I'm going to be at this place for a year because I'm signing a lease. So! No more moving! yay yay yay! The people seem really cool too. I sat down and talked with them for a pretty good amount of time yesterday and meet everyone and I think that I'll be pretty happy there.
ALSO! the kitchen is really really clean (deal maker #1 for me) and they have a huge back yard where I can grow things! The location is super and the rent is reasonable. I think on the most expensive months it will come out to be close to 410 a month including all the utilities.
The room is big enough that I can do yoga in it and also have all of my belongings fit too which is going to be nice and it's probably 10 minutes away from work for me.
I am super excited!

Under There
Two things.
Thing number one: My room is now almost twice the size that it used to be. Yay!! There used to be a bunch of stuff being stored in the space where my bed now is and now there is just a bed! I love all the space.
Thing number two: Out dryer's broken so these are all of my socks and underwear draped about my newly available space.

Socks! Yay! I have so many warm socks! Thanks go out to you guys for all the warm sock I've accumulated over the past few Christmases.

Underwear hanging on thumbtacks on my wall

Socks and underwear draped on desks, lamps and every other non-floor surface in my room.
